Florida cops are clowns!
Eighteen year old Matthew Lopez made the mistake of walking the streets of Tampa wearing a clown mask and bright red and orange wig, so he was promptly arrested and thrown in the hoosegow!
Some deputy saw the teenage Krusty and two other individuals walking along and decided to follow them for a while – because as we all know, where there is a clown there is trouble. Then another cop car showed up, causing Lopez and his partners in hilarity to run for it. The three were later found hiding in a very small, brightly colored car and Lopez was charged with wearing a mask in public and resisting arrest in a nonviolent manner, which in Florida probably carries a heavier penalty than resisting it in a violent manner.
Apparently this idiot law goes back to concerns about the notorious white supremacist group the Ku Klux Klowns, who in the fifties terrorized Florida by sneaking up on people of color, then whacking them with cream pies, squirting them with seltzer bottles and then running away while honking a horn and laughing insanely!
Would this have happened to an 18 year old girl wearing a clown mask? I doubt it. I suspect what happened here was that because his build marked him as male, Lopez was seen as some kind of threat, so he got booked. Lopez does have to take some of the blame though – if instead of wearing a clown mask he had worn a burka the cops would have been too afraid of the ACLU to do anything other than nod politely….
