67 year old grandmother Bonnie Hoult pulled out a .357 magnum and blew away her two little granddaughters, her daughter Elizabeth Fontaine, and then herself.
After a long and bitter custody battle, 38 year old Elizabeth Fontaine had just been told by the California courts to turn her two daughters, Catherine Fontaine, aged 4, and Julia Fontaine, aged only 2, over to the custody of their aunt, so she and Gran decided to do away with themselves and the two little girls. Apparently the old woman was the one who got to pull the trigger, but according to the authorities Elizabeth was a willing participant in the slaying of her own daughters.
The excuse being put forth by the media is that there have been allegations of molestation against the girls’ father, allegations which the authorities found baseless but which the daughter’s own psychologist claims are backed up by the 4 year old girl’s testimony. Given that the only support for the accusations comes from a psychologist paid by the girls’ mother, and that at least a third of such allegations made during custody fights are false, this may be nothing more than a case of a chivalrous mainstream media looking to hand out a pair of posthumous pussy passes.
I have great trouble believing that fear for the girls’ safety was the reason for their murder – after all, they weren’t even going to be in the custody of the supposedly abusive father but rather that of his sister, and if the guy was a child molester why not protect the girls by killing him instead of his alleged victims? No, I don’t buy that excuse at all, I suspect that once the dust settles it will all turn out to be a case of two grotesquely possessive women who viewed children as property and who took the view that if they can’t have the little girls then neither can anyone else.
