Famous Queer Freaks Out America!

Misandry met homophobia recently with pop singer Adam Lambert being criticized for getting a bit too, er, amorous with some guy on stage during one of those award ceremonies nobody really cares about any more.

The reaction to Lambert’s display has been much harsher than that to the kiss between Britney spears and that hideous old woman a few years ago, but the possibility of a clear comparison has been complicated by the fact that Lambert’s act was a bit more explicit, what with some crotch stuff happening. CBS’s Early Show, however, has ridden to the rescue by showing both the Lambert kiss, which was blurred, and the Britney/ Hideous Old Woman kiss, which was not blurred! If that doesn’t prove a double standard, at least at CBS, then nothing does!

Blurring the more explicit stuff I can understand, but the kiss was no worse than the famous Sapphic liplock between Brit Brit and her Gran, so it’s hard for me not to see this as another example of the way that society sees male sexuality as being somehow wrong, with the condemnation increasing in proportion to how far from the norm that sexuality veers.

As for Lambert’s view, when asked if the uproar was a male thing or a gay thing, he told host Maggie Rodriguez …

“Both. I think it’s a double-whammy.”

This led Rodriguez to stammer…

“But, but, I don’t think people have said specifically that they were upset about the fact that you’re gay or that you’re kissing a guy.”

Yeah, like anyone in the media is going to be stupid enough to scream “Holy Shit, that faggot’s kissing a dude!” They may think it, but they aint gonna say it!

Rodriguez also did her best Helen Lovejoy impression by repeatedly screaming out “Oh, won’t somebody please think of the children!” but Lambert quite rightly refused to apologize to any kiddies who may have been watching, citing the fact that it was almost eleven at night and that he aint no babysitter. Still, credit where credit is due – the CBS performance came after ABC canceled a performance by Lambert fearing he would do something overly queer on it’s morning show, so I guess CBS’s prejudice doesn’t run quite as deep as that of the Disney- owned ABC.

The entire homophobia thing is almost as damaging to straight men as to gay ones. Too close to your best mate? Well, you must be fags then! Women on the other hand, are allowed to get their emotional intimacy from their own sex without their sexuality being disparaged, but if men do likewise, it looks suspect. This is fine if you don’t give a toss about emotional intimacy, but many men do, and since the only source seen as legitimate is the wiminz, that’s where they get it, thereby making them more dependent on women, which is something no man needs, especially these days.

As for my posting the kiss itself, I did this partly because I am offended by censorship, hence i am not about to practice it, and if Lambert wants to kiss some bloke in public that’s his business, as long as he isn’t shoving his dick down his throat it’s fine by me. The other reason I’ve posted it is because it makes me a bit queasy, as I suspect is the case with most straight males, but that’s the result of a lack of exposure, if we saw it as often as two women kissing my reaction would soon be the same – indifference.
